Birdcage Planters

Birdcages are one of this year’s most popular decorating trends. As containers for blooms and plants is among the easiest ways to use them in the house/garden and repurposing birdcages, Birdcages can readily be used to cover houseplants and specimen plants outside. Birdcages that are smaller may also be not difficult to incorporate into other floral displays and centerpieces. Birdcages make exceptional tiny “greenhouses” for showing seedlings and small potted plants, also. With a tiny bit of effort, they could be turned into terrariums. Thus, are you ready to contain birdcages in your home and garden? It shouldn’t easy. No matter what your design, there is probably a birdcage planter out there to fit it! If their undersides are removed, birdcages can also be used as cloches. Birdcages will provide some protection for plants, although mostly ornamental. Used outside, birdcage cloches offer shade in hot weather and protection from frost and ice . Birdcages may also protect outdoor plants from large pests like bunnies. Some birdcages, like the metal birdcage cloches above, are made specifically to be used as Metal Planters. Birdcage Terrariums Birdcage terrariums are simple to make. The truth is, you are able to create one by adding several potted plants and simply lining a birdcage with moss. So that the terrarium will continue a long time, choose plants with similar light & water conditions. Feeling creative that is extra? Add one or more decorative elements like a bird’s nest, faux fowl or a little bit of garden pottery and you have a birdcage terrarium that’s appropriate for displaying indoors or, if the season (and the plants) are appropriate, great for hanging...

Steel is readily the most famous substance used in metal yard art because itis affordable, versatile and easy to use. It’s used to make metal yard decor, garden sculptures, wall art and garden stakes like bird feeders, lanterns and wind spinners. Steel may be utilized in its natural state, varnished, painted or left to corrode. Some artists mix treated metal for pieces with an extremely unusual appearance and corroded metal. For larger bits that were more complex resistant stainless steel is used to create beautiful, architectural bits. A Number of the very creative, entertaining and whimsical works of metal lawn decor I Have seen are produced from recycled metal. Recycled steel oil tanks or drums, bit trikes, nuts and bolts or bike and broke tools, these supply the raw materials for the metal artist that is creative. While a busted rake becomes a fowl a rusted oil drum is reborn as a happy pig. Copper is, in addition, popular in alloy lawn decor as it’s appealing, long-lasting and adds class to any lawn. It’ll age into a natural green patina if permitted to oxidize. Additionally, it may be maintained with a transparent finish to maintain its brilliant, glossy appearance. Wall artwork, garden stakes and copper statues bring a touch of class to any decor. There are also some other interesting materials used in sculpture, I’ve seen channel cladding used in very interesting sculptures in the past. For the standard appearance add a bronze garden sculpture. Bronze statues have been around for tens of thousands of years and have been constructed in acknowledgement of fallen heroes, leaders and even st. Now they comprise more topics that are lively like kids with their pets. Bronze statues remain popular now since they are classic, ageless and certainly will survive for generations. Using Plastic As A Substitute For Metal

Posted by on 12:09 pm in Bespoke Metal Work, Metal Design | 0 comments

The manufacture of plastics has come a long way in the last few decades. With streamlined manufacturing processes, plastic has become one of the most commonly used materials in realms in which only metal would do in the past. Plastics are now used in automobiles, home appliances, and even airplanes. You’ll find it is siding for the house, and even in landscaping in the form of large plastic planters or heavy duty edging. But, just how durable is all of this plastic? Here are some interesting and perhaps surprising facts about using plastic as a substitute for metal. Sun Damage The sun put out radiation. Ultraviolet light is invisible, but very powerful, and can greatly influence plastic. Modern commercial roofing uses PVC materials to keep the structures beneath safe from water damage. The PVC, or plastic materials are usually covered with gravel and pitch. This type of roof will last for five decades or more. However, if a section of the covering becomes cleared of the gravel, it will soon rot from exposure to UV rays, causing failure of the roof. This damage will occur to other types of plastic, too. Vinyl siding on a house will gradually become more brittle as it is exposed to the sun. While it may appear to be all right, it will lose its impact resistance. This means that something like a hail storm or strike from an errand baseball may cause the siding to shatter. The roof is the same way, with sections that have been sun damaged shattering on impact from hail stones or branches from overhanging trees. Fading Plastics will also fade over time. While some items are fine, such as large plastic planters, and can be replaced when needed, other items, such as house siding, cannot be replaced on a budget. Most of these plastics are tinted when they are manufactured. The color goes all the way through, as in planters. But, if the planter is scratched, the darker color will show through. You get the same effect with siding. The overall fading may not be so noticeable, but if you replace a strip of siding, or a section gets a scratch on it, the new surface will be considerably darker. Vehicles These problems are not as bad with vehicles because of the paint job that is done at the factory. However, in very old vehicles, you will begin to see some fading, no matter how good the original paint job may have been. With parts of your house or vehicle that may receive a great deal of contact, metal is usually the better selection. However, plastic can serve its purposes very well if you are aware that you may have to replace it in just a few years. Plastic edging will look great and be quite affordable at the time, but in about 10 years, you’ll need to start replacing it because it will become brittle. Flower post and platers are the same...

A Great Staff Outing At Swedish Metal

Posted by on 9:59 am in Swedish metal staff | 0 comments

With the rush of the holiday season approaching, the staff at Swedish Metal decided to have their get-together before scheduling became impossible. What started out as a simple holiday became a Christmas celebration for entire families. Once we found out how affordable and comfortable accommodation in the Quantocks could be, we decided to bring families and all to the outing. Combe House Hotel One of the first places we looked at for lodging was the Combe House Hotel. This is a bed and breakfast, so two of our families decided this was the place for them. They loved the classic look of the home, and the breakfasts were wonderful. Each room had its own bath, so they didn’t have to share with other lodgers, and the location was handy to all of the group activities, too. We even gathered at the onsite, casual pub after dinner. The Hood Arms The Hood Arms is actually a 17th century building. The rooms are comfy, and they offer free Wi-Fi, so the more dedicated to Facebook and work stayed here. Breakfast here was terrific, and the Boules pitch provided great evening entertainment for the entire group. The Carew Arms Three more members of our group stayed at the Carew Arms. This structure is even older than the Hood Arms, as a 16th century building. It was located out in the country, and offered great hiking and bucolic views. We all dined at the onsite restaurant for one night of our stay. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, and they also had free Wi-Fi. The Old Cider House Located on Castle Street, The Old Cider House features its own microbrewery. Some of our party stayed here, and said the rooms were in a classic style with comfortable beds and great room service. We also had our choice of breakfasts at this nice lodging, and took advantage of the great meals available. Located on 6 High Street, The Luttrell Arms is a true landmark from the 13th century. The medieval structure has 28 rooms, and is near the Exmoor park. It’s ranked #1 in the area, and is in a quite area that makes your stay relaxing and enjoyable. The Promenade Hotel The Promenade Hotel is one of those that offers beachside lodging. Complete with guesthouses, the bed and breakfasts offer great food and quick access to the water. This is particularly popular with those in our group who like kayaking, surfing, and paddleboarding. It’s also great for beach combing. The Beach Hotel The Beach Hotel is another great location with full view and access to the beach. You can see all the way across Bristol Channel from the Beach Hotel. The rooms are nice, the dining is great, and you have plenty of access to the ocean and beach. Besides outside activities, there is great shopping in the area, and plenty of entertainment. You’ll enjoy your stay in the Quantocks, too, with all of the great...

Commisioned For Major Outdoor Sculpture

Posted by on 10:49 am in Bespoke Metal Work | 0 comments

Swedish Metal has been commissioned to produce custom-ordered lawn sculptures. These sculptures are an expression of the designs developed by artists and craftsmen with the company, and as an expression of the customer’s imagination. Swedish Metal provides bespoke metalwork for commercial and private customers, and will also produce products based on a client’s plans. As an online source for plans, materials, and bespoke construction, Swedish Metal offers a full inventory for everything from sculptures to railings and stairs. These sculptures that are under construction are designed to act as expressive elements in the client’s garden that is well maintained by a lawn care company. Drawbacks of Sculptures Lawn and garden sculptures often have a host of drawbacks. At Swedish Metal, we take care to make sure that lawn care companies can maneuver their equipment around the sculptures easily. This is crucial because you don’t want to have to pay more for lawn care simply because of extended hours needed to avoid accidents on your property. Also, the metalwork should be properly balanced. This is often a challenge, especially when considering various designs that are intended to be asymmetrical. An off-balance sculpture must be anchored properly, preferably with counter-balances that will keep it steady in a wind storm. The designers must also consider the possibility of foreign objects settling on the sculpture. The weight of a single bird may not affect the integrity of the sculpture, but an entire flock of birds might. There is also the problem of potential damage caused by children or even adults who see the sculpture as some sort of playground equipment. In municipal applications, these considerations have to be part of the overall design. However for sculptures on your lawn, this may not be as much of a concern. However, it is always best to prepare for the worst. Bases for Sculptures The base of the sculpture is of crucial concern as far as lawn maintenance goes. A flat pad as a great solution, but may require a lot of reinforcement to keep the sculpture sturdy. This makes it easier to mow the lawn and keep the area looking nice. A pillar is also a good solution for the base, as it allows the maintenance company to use a weed-eater around the base to keep grass at bay. Perhaps the most difficult maintenance is on the sculpture that seems to rise, unsupported, from the soil. This will have any number of metal supports that will challenge the lawn equipment, forcing the use of several feet of trimmer line for edging purposes. Irrigation Another feature to consider when building sculptures for the lawn is the pattern provided by the sprinkler system. In some cases, the sculpture may actually block the spray from an automatic sprinkler system, causing parts of the lawn or garden to die. In these cases, it is important to chart the spray patterns and allow for alternate sprinkler heads to be used to keep the lawn...
